About James Francis Reehil-Lynch

In the 1870 U.S. Federal Census for Hazle Township, Hazelton Post Office, Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, James Reehil, 12, was living with his mother, Catherine, 50, and sister, Catherine, 15, and brother, Thomas, 10. Catherine was born in Ireland and her children were all born in Pennsylvania. Several of their neighbors were working as coal miners. James' father, James Edward Reehil, had passed away in 1866, so Catherine was a widow and was raising her children alone.

By 1880, Francis Reehil, 23, was single, living in Charleston, Jefferson County, West Virginia, and was working as a railroad foreman. He was living as a "boarder" in the home of a Mr. Thomas Bragg, 61, and his wife, Mary D., 52, and their son, Daniel F., 14, and son-in-law, Peter (can't read his last name in the census record), 27, his wife, Mary F. Bragg, 20, and 5 other "boarders" and 5 people listed as "servants or domestics". Mr. Bragg was listed as a pump maker, and his wife as a landlady, one boarder was a physician, another was a "room keeper" and three of them were railroad foreman, and the servants/domestics were listed as a cook, clerk, and porter in a hotel. So from this record, I assume that Francis was living in a hotel. All these people were living in the same home on West Main Street.

In 1880 James married Katherine Rogers, and they had the following children: Gertrude, Stanley, Agnes, Catherine, Edward, James and Cleatus. in the 1900 U.S. Federal Census they were living in Wilkes Barre, Luzerne, Pennsylvania, and were listed as follows: James, 41, Kate, 41, Gertie, 18, Stanley, 17, Agnes, 10, Catherine, 9, Edward, 7, James, 4 and Cleatus, 1. James was working as a coal miner, daughter Gertie, was working as a house servant, and Stanley was working as a baker's apprentice. All of the children were born in Pennsylvania, as were James and Kate, but their parents were both born in Ireland. In this census record it states James and Kate had been married for twenty years, had ten children, seven of whom were still living.

For some reason, when James Francis Reehil left Pennsylvania and moved to Wyoming, he went by the last name Lynch instead of Reehil. A 1910 census record shows that James F. Lynch, 50, was living in North Cumberland, Uinta, Wyoming, with his wife, Catherine, 50, and children, Kathleen, 19, Edward, 17, James F., 14, and Cletis V., 11. James and Catherine had been married for 29 years, had given birth to 10 children, 7 of whom were still living. James was working as a coal miner, and his son Edward, was working as a "sprinkler" in a coal mine.

In the 1920 U.S. Federal Census, James F. Lynch, 60, and his wife, Kate, 60, were living in Hot Springs, Wyoming, with their sons James W., 23, and Cleatus, 21, and the children of their son, Stanley, who passed away in 1918 from influenza: Stanley, 12, Richard, 10, and James, 8. Next door was their daughter, Gertrude, 38, who had married Alexander Easton, 40, and they had the following children, Frances, 14, George, 11, Helen, 9, Kathalene, 7, Gertrude, 5, and Reehil, one year, five months old.

In the 1930 U.S. Federal Census, the family was living in Gebo, Hot Springs County, Wyoming, in a home they were renting for $16.00 per month, and were listed as: James F., 72, Katharine, 72, son, James F., 33, and grandchildren Stanley, 23, Richard, 20, James, 18, and Kathrine, 15. James and Katharine were born in Pennsylvania, and both their parents were born in Ireland. Their son, James, was born in Pennsylvania, and their grandchildren in Wyoming. Son James, and grandchildren, Stanley, Richard and James, were all working as coal miners.

James Francis Reehil died January 7, 1932, at the age of 73 in Gebo, Hot Springs County, Wyoming and was buried there in the Monument Hill Cemetery in Thermopolis, Hot Springs County, Wyoming, Plot: Section 2, Lot 7, according to Find A Grave.com. His grave is just north and adjacent to his wife, Catherine's. Her gravestone says she was born in 1859 and died in 1938, and James' says he was born in 1859 and died in 1932.
