About Janet Ann Mattson
Jan and her husband, George Rufus, had lived in Odanah and in Ashland and attended St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Odanah. They enjoyed spending time in Odanah, and they liked driving/riding around the area and seeing different places. They also loved spending time at their home.
In addition to being a homemaker, Jan had worked as a waitress, a cook, a CNA and in housekeeping. She wrote poetry and read her poems (which she kept in a large binder) to others. She was an avid Scrabble player and usually won games. She liked watching game shows and was good at answering Jeopardy questions and solving Wheel of Fortune puzzles. She especially enjoyed receiving letters and cards from her granddaughters and writing to them.
Jan is survived by her daughters Renee Nies (Gary) Rubin and Robin Nies (Bob) Bair and granddaughters Sarah, Rachael and Elizabeth Bair; her siblings, Donald Mattson, David Mattson, Emery (Judy) Mattson, Kathleen (George) Setzke, and Patricia (Charlie) Beyersdorf; nieces, nephews and cousins; Rufus family relatives; and her special friend, Laura Maxwell, who was holding her hand as she took her last breath.
Jan is proceeded in death by her parents; her husband George; her son Kevin Nies; her brother Paul V. R. (Evie) Mattson; and nephews Brent Mattson, Patrick Simonson and Todd Setzke.
