Father of Henry Reed Rathbone, who heroically grappled with (and was horrifically wounded by President Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth, in Ford's Theatre on 14 April 1865.
His memorial is considered to be "a counterpart to the tomb of Scipio."
An artist's depiction of Rathburn's massive Kenwood Estate in Albany NY, found by a Disney Imagineer in the book Decorative Art of Victoria's Era by Frances Lichten, was the model for the facade of Walt Disney World's 'The 'Haunted Mansion attraction.
