Jefferson Peak, Sr

( Jefferson Peak, Sr. married Martha Malvina Reser on 8/17/1826. He was a merchant at Warsaw, KY, was Postmaster there for ten years, & served for two years in the KY Legislature. In May 1846, he organized a company & served as part of Captain Gallatin's Rangers, 1st KY Volunteers for the Mexican War. He was in service with this company until July 1847. Jefferson came to Dallas in 1855 & bought the land that was later known as East Dallas or Peak's Addition. In 1861, he was enrolling officer for the enlistment of men for the Confederate Army. He donated the land for many East Dallas streets, & some of these streets still bear names of members of his family. He also donated the land for the Christian Church at Bryan & Pearl Streets with the proviso that if ever instrumental music was used in the church, the ground would revert to his heirs.)
