Jessie Louise Coby

Jessie Louise Case and Oliver Jacob Coby were married 11 Jan 1887 in Toledo, Lucas Co., OH.

Jessie Case graduated from Toledo High School, class of 1879. She attended Normal School in Ohio and later taught school in East Toledo where her family lived.

As the wife of a Methodist minister Jessie lived in many northwestern Ohio towns. She was active in church women's groups and the Women's Christian Temperance Union. About 1922 when living in Bellevue, she developed a heart problem which resulted in her decision to give up houskeeping. She and Oliver then moved to New Rochelle, New York to live with their daughter Beatrice and husband Wilfred Winans. The family moved to Larchmont, New York in the early thirties. Until 1936 Jessie and Oliver continued to return to the Coby cottage at Lakeside, Ohio, in the summertime where family and friends visited.

On January 11, 1937 Jessie and Oliver celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary with a church service and dinner in West Redding, Connecticut, and with luncheon the next day in Larchmont. After Oliver's death in June 1937, Jessie sold the cottage. She came for summer visits with her daughter Helen and husband Paul Williams in Kirkwood, Missouri, and with her son Arthur and wife Ruth in Akron, Ohio. She corresponded regularly with her friends and family. She read favorite newspaper columns daily and kept track of her investments.

Much of her life Jessie was very deaf.
