About Jim Swift
SWIFT, JAMES NESMITH, 91, Birmingham, Alabama, died on Monday, July 23, 2007.
He was born in Gadsden, Alabama to Nancy Whorton Swift and Maurice Young Swift on December 6, 1915. He was graduated from the Georgia Military Academy and attended Auburn University. During World War II, he was a Captain in the U.S. Army serving as an Air/Ground Liaison Officer in France and Belgium. For over forty years, he was in the insurance and real estate business in Gadsden. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Gadsden.
He is survived by his wife, Emily G. Swift; sisters, Patricia Blalock and Irene Coley of Birmingham; his son, James and his wife Hollis of Birmingham; his daughters, Melissa Blackstone (John) of Athens, Ga. and Elizabeth Swift of Birmingham; grandchildren, Susanna Hawley (Todd) of Hull, Ga., Waid Blackstone (Tama) of Birmingham, Emily Grace Blackstone of Washington, D.C., Mary Blackstone of Athens, Ga., Libby Swift and Lucy Swift of Birmingham; and two great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors at Collier Butler Funeral home from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 28, 2007. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, July 28, 2007 at 3 p.m. at Forrest Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to the John H. Blackstone Scholarship in Supply Chain Management at Auburn University, 317 S. College St, Auburn University, AL 36849-5153.
