John D. Bozarth is the patriach of the generations of Bozarth's buried in this cemetery. He was a son of Abner & Fanny (Means) Bozarth and their only child to move to Illinois. He was married to Margaret Ward on 11 May 1828 in White Co, TN. Between the time their first child Elijah was born in May 1829 and their second child Jonathan was born in Dec 1830, they moved to Edgar Co, Illinois (as Elijah was born in Tn and Jonathan in Edgar Co, IL). They had 10 children, that are known. Only 6 of those 10 made it past the age of 1.

John was a farmer primarily, but also a teacher. He was also in the Blackhawk war from 1830 to 1832. He was truly a prioneer of Edgar County.

John D. Bozarth was a Corporal serving in Captain Isaac Sanford's Company of the 2nd Brigade of the 1st Regiment of the 1st Battalion of the Illinois Mounted Volunteers in 1832.
