About John Jacob Finlayson

Boonville, Nov. 25—The death Of John J. Finlayson occurred early Sunday morning at his home, on Schuyler street, this village. Mr. Finlayson, who was nearly 81 years of age, had been very active for his years, until a few weeks ago, when his health began to fall. He was very well known In northern Oneida county. For 40 years he was manager of the M. J. Davis Feed Mills, this village, which business brought him into contact with many people. His kindly, genial manner and his fair business dealing won the confidence and respect of all with whom he came In contact. He had served as tax collector for the town of Boonville for over 17 years, resigning last year because of falling health. Mr. Finlayson was a member of the Presbyterian Church and was also a prominent member of Boonville Lodge, F. and A. M., No. 165, having been a member for 53 years. Three years ago the lodge held a little celebration in his honor, at which time he was presented with a fifty-year Masonic jewel. John J. Finlayson was the son of Alexander and Jessie Knight Finlayson and was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, Dec. 4,1848. When ' a child his parents came to this country. May 2. 1872, he was married to Miss Medora Cramer by the Rev. John R. Lewis, who was pastor of the Boonville Presbyterian Church at that time. Mrs. Finlayson died Nov. 2. 1914. This makes the fifth death In the family in a little over two years. A sister, Mrs. Fred Utley, died In 1927; a second sister, Mrs. Frederick Kesauer In July. 1928. and the third sister, Mrs. Marion J. Davis, died, July , 1929, and a daughter, Katherine M. (Mrs.Charles Stoeber), died In 1927. Four children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Finlayson. three of whom have died. Beside the daughter already mentioned, a son, George,died in infancy, and a daughter,Mary, at the age of 14 years.Surviving are one son, William A. Finlayson of Utlca, one grand son, Edwin Finlayson, Utlca, and one brother, Edward A. Finlayson. Syracuse.The funeral will be held from his late home Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Rev. A. T. Cort. pastor of the Presbyterian officiating. Masonic Lodge. Boonville, will conduct the Masonic ritual. Interment will be made In Boonville cemetery.
