About John Amos Franklin
John's grandfather, Thomas Franklin, came from Erin's Isle to Pittsburgh in 1818 with one child about 6 weeks old. In a letter to a family member, Thomas had written about how he and his wife hid in the bushes at night when the Catholics had burned their home down. They would move to Marion township, Monroe (now Noble) County. Alexander would move to the area in 1824 and have six children. By this time, Alexander (John's father) his third son, was already married to Mary Amos .

There is a photo of the family dated 16 June, 1912 (Franklin/Guiler History) that shows the entire immediate family, except the eldest daughter, Mary Rose. She had died several years earlier. She was represented by her two daughters, Floral and Edith Morrison. A second family reunion was photographed in the summer of 1943.
