John was a prominent farmer in the Batchtown area of Calhoun County, and Caroline was a homemaker. They were the parents of 10 children.

At the time of his death, John was 91 years and 29 days old. He was survived by his wife, Caroline, who passed away in 1952.

Other survivors included 4 daughters, Lizzie Brodbeck, Emma Halemeyer, Freda Kinder and Nora Beisman; and 1 son, Henry Kinder.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by 1 daughter, Dinah Kinder; and 3 sons, William, Johnie and Carl Kinder. All 4 of the children who preceded him died in infancy or very early childhood.

Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. on 02 Feb 1950 at St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Brussels. Burial was in the church cemetery.
