About John Francis Oakley
John F. Oakley , 80, of Candlewood Drive, Smithfield, a quality control inspector and machinist for the defense industry in Rhode Island for 23 years before retiring in 1978 because of illness, died yesterday at Roger Williams Medical Center. He was the husband of Madeline A. (Sesebesta) Oakley .
Born in Providence, a son of the late Adolf M. and Josephine (Nedvick) Oakley , he moved to Smithfield eight years ago.
Mr. Oakley previously had worked for the Bulova Watch Co. for five years.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a life member of the DAV.
He was a communicant of St. Casimir Church in Providence, and a member of the Lithuanian Beneficial Club in Providence.
Besides his wife he leaves three daughters, Lynne B. Goewey of Cranston, Mary Ann O'Reilly of Smithfield and Margaret A. Darigan of Biddeford, ME; a brother, Walter A. Oakley of Cranston; a sister, E. Barbara Avizinis of Cranston; 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
The funeral was held on Thursday from the Russell J. Boyle & Son Funeral Home, 331 Smith St., Providence, with Prayers of Final Commendation at St. Casimir Church, Smith Street. Burial with military honors was in the Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Exeter.
