21 January 1439-40: Precept of clare constat by Alexander de Ile, earl of Ross, lord of the Isles, in favour of John Ross, as heir of deceased Hugh Ross, his father, in lands of Balnagowan, Achavill, Gorry, Culcarne, Badcoll, Moltvy, Petmodvoy, Estirallane, annualrent from Tarbart, and lands of the 2 Rareychis, Culnyss, Westray, Strathcaron, and Strathocale, Osbudule, Innercasly, Mullochy, in granter's earldom and sheriffdom of Inverness. 24 January 1456-57: Instrument narrating that John Ross, laird of Balnagowan, asked Alexander Sutherland, laird of Dunbeth, for a bond for £20 Scots from said Alexander, to which he agreed, and discharged the said John, though he could not find the bond, whereupon the said John paid said Alexander for the wadset of the lands of Culyndoray and Moyblare, and asked for the charter of wadset to be returned to him; Alexander refused to do this until he was given another merk as maill, which John refused, so they agreed to deposit the charter with William Monilaw till the plea was settled.
