(Johnnes)George Leopold Mueller

Notes on George Mueller: information received via a telephone conversation with David Rebhahn after he had talked with Elsie Bush ( daughter of Katherine (Mueller). Further information taken from a subesquent letter received from Elsie Bush to Mary (Rebhahn) Isaacson.

• Georges's name really John (probably Johnnes) which he didn't like, so he called himself George Leopold.
• George can to USA first befor Joseph.
• George worked at Stickley's as a furniture carver.

-discovered heart condition.

-stopped working at Stickley's.

-bought 16 acres of land in Jamesville to live & raise food.

-grew rhubarb and strawberries.

had lots of money in stock market; did not lose it in 1929 Stock Crash.

-built greenhouse; learned to grow nursey plants and did well.

-carved furniture for Stickleys at home at times.

• After George's death:

-left lots of money

-left 16 acres in Jamesville to Frank who had polio as youth.

-left coffee can for Clara - George kept a coffee can with petty cash for incidentals for Clara. After he died, money in coffee can was counted - found to contain $26,000.

• Family health problem: Thyroid

-No family photos they were destroyed by a fire.

• George's first marriage to Clara (1870 -1903)

- First wifed died from miscarriage at age 33.

• George's second wife Katherine (1867 - 1954)

  Marriage of convenience

      1. George needed someone to care for his 5 children

       2. Katherine had a son Joseph and needed support for her son & herself, as her husband had died.

• George adopted Joseph.
