Will of Joshua Wright dec'd 12 Mar 1869, Clinton Co, KY J. Elder adm. Death may have been in Fentress Co, TN or Clinton Co, KY? Deed record found in the Tennessee Archives by Robert Gordon Have also seen that he died in Fentress Co, TN? 23 Jun 1875 Morgan Co, TN (or was this Fentress?) in Register of Grants, Book A, page 14, Abigail (Wright) Howard and heirs (children) of Pleasant Howard "sold 500 acres, more or less, to John C. Wright...this land being that owned and lived on by Pleasant and Anderson Howard before the War and formerly owned by Joshua Wright on the waters of Clear Creek..." History of Fentress County Tennessee (1916) by Albert R. Hogue said that at one time he controlled over one hundred thousand acres of land. He settled at Clarkrange, in the southern part of the county. May have been first settler in that region. Have seen it suggested that Mitchell Wright b. abt 1828, Jeremiah Wright, and Allen W. Wright were sons of Joshua Foster Wright, but careful analysis of census records do not reveal this.

Shirley Gragg -- gragg02@comcast.net -- I think this is the son of Philbert Wright (b. 1777) of Randolph County, NC, but need strong confirmation. Do you happen to have any information on Joshua?s parents? I see your notes refer to a will. Do you have a copy? I?m trying to help a descendant of Joshua?s, but he?s come up to a brick wall as far as parents are concerned. One thing I see that gives a bit of concern ? I see where Joshua was in Randolph Co. in 1803, then moved to Overton in 1807, then back to Randolph in 1810 (census) and again, back to Overton in 1814. Lots of moving about for the distance involved at that time. The Wright family of Rowan and Davidson County NC believe the ?patriarch? of the family is one Richard Wright, Sr., of Maryland. Richard is thought to be a son of Philbert Right and Esther Becraft of Maryland. Philbert and Esther had 4 known children (from baptismal records); however, after they moved from their parish sometime abt 1722, it?s believed (but not proven ? yet) that they had 2, possibly 3 children ? Richard (Sr) ? my ancestor; Amos and Joseph, who d. in abt 1773 in Maryland.
Shirley Gragg reports Joshua Wright's ancestry as: http://trees.ancestry.com/tree/11540201/person/-267551937 Recently received DNA confirms information on ancestors - father, grandfather and great-grandfather for Joshua Foster Wright. They are as follows: Parents: Philbert Wright b. 1750 MD d. 18 Feb 1833 IN and Elizabeth Reagan 1754-1830; with children of Mattie, Sarah, Joshua, Philbird, Mary, Noah, Eli, Levi, Joel, Jesse, Elizabeth and Aaron. Grandparents: Philbert Wright b. 4 Sep 1719 Queen Anne Parish, Prince George's Co, MD d. 1779 Randolph Co, NC and unknown wife Great Grandparents: Philbert Wright b. before 1690 d. abt 1735 in Anne Arundel Co, MD and Esther Becraft 1695-1738 with children Anne, Peter, Philbert, Rebecca, Richard Sr., Joseph and Amos.
