OSS Agent during World War II, he married fellow OSS Agent, Virginia Hall. Born in Paris, France, he travelled to New York before the war, and joined the Office of Strategic Services (OSS) when America entered the war. There he made several trips into occupied France, where he helped set up resistance units, supplying arms and training the French in sabotage operations. When the war ended, he remained with OSS and transferred to the Central Intelligence Agency, the successor agency to the OSS, helping to prepare anti-communist propaganda for dissemination into the Russian occupied east European countries. In 1950, he married Virginia Hall, his fellow OSS Agent during World War II.

Finding himself less and less useful, he left the CIA to start a restaurant, which eventually failed. After that, he remained a "house husband" while his wife continued with the CIA. In 1987, about five years after the death of his wife, he suffered a stroke and died.
