NOTES FOR MARIA EVA KAPPES 26 Mar 1991

Parents on death record incorrectly given as Adam & Maria Eva (understandable as her father & mother had been dead for 60 yrs., respectively).

Certainly she is the daughter of Lorenz & Margaretha Klein Kapps. There is no other Eva Kapps born in Oppau to 1773, as confirmed by a page search of the Evangelical register for Oppau.

In 1843 Nicolas Conde, 51 laborer, reported the death in Oppau of Sophia, baby daughter of Georg Kapps. Civil records of event calls Nick "Vetter im sechsten grade" = "a cousin within the 6th degree" = "a distant cousin". Evidence points to this Georg's being the probable grandson of Peter kapps, brother of our Maria Eva.

At midnight Lorenz Kapps, citizen & resident of Oppau and wife, Maria Margaretha had a daughter who was brought to be baptize on the 22 Aug 1759 by Peter Durnick, citizen of the same town and his wife Maria Eva; which child received the name Maria Eva.
