About Martha Tabram
"Martha White was born at 17 Marshall Street in Southwark, London, England, on 10 May 1849. Her parents were Charles Samuel White and Elisabeth White (nee Dowsett). Her parents separated in May 1865 and her father died suddenly six months later. She married Henry Samuel Tabram on 25 December 1869, and they had two children together. The couple separated and Martha later lived with a carpenter called Henry Turner. She developed a problem with alcohol and sold goods on the street, supplementing this income with sex work. She was aged 39 when she was murdered" (bio by Debbie McCauley, 15 January 2021).
NOTE: Please do not add post-mortem images to this profile (or link to sources that do so). Most of the Whitechapel Murder victims had brutally hard lives and nowhere to turn, they were failed by society back then, much like many are today. They were the victims of violent crime and to see the pictures of their bodies so casually strewn across the internet reflects a systemic misogyny that saw police investigations fail to catch the murderer at the time and unfortunately is still demeaning these women today.
