Rites Thursday
Funeral services for Mary B. Harris, 79, of 3476 Washington, will be conducted by Dr. William H. Griffith at 1 p.m. Thursday at Hathaway-Myers Funeral Chapel, where persons may call until 8 o'clock tonight and until time of service Thursday.
Burial will be at Cliff Hill Cemetery at Versailles.
Mrs. Harris died at 9:20 a.m. Tuesday at Columbus Convalescent Center.
She was born in Carroll County, Va., Feb. 27, 1902, the daughter of Joseph W. and Louinda Shockley Petty. She was married June 11, 1932, at Versailles, to Clarence E. Harris, who died Oct. 4, 1964.
A 1922 graduate of Henryville High School and a graduate of Butler University, Mrs. Harris taught in Bartholomew County schools and was teaching at McKinley Elementary School when she retired in 1966.
She was a member of First Baptist Church, Alice Court of the Order of Amaranth, Indiana State Teachers Association and Order of the Eastern Star at Versailles.
Survivors include two brothers, Leland E. Petty, also of 3476 Washington, Earl W. Petty of Scottsburg; two sisters, Ethel Petty of Henryville and Mrs. C. E. Roth of Louisville, and several nieces and nephews.* Reference: Find A Grave Memorial - SmartCopy: Sep 30 2023, 10:59:24 UTC
