Daniel Lambert was born circa 1729 in Elizabeth, NJ to John and Mary (Alton) Lambert.
Daniel married Mary 'Polly' Fitz Randolph, the strongest evidence for which is found in the 1765 will of Mary's father, Jeremiah Fitz Randolph, which explicitly mentions his daughter "Mary, wife of Daniel Lambert". Together they had seven children, but there is only very spotty information about their details. It is not clear whether the family remained in New Jersey, possibly in Westfield where there was a Daniel Lambert on the tax list for 1781, or by 1798 had moved to Cincinnati, Ohio, where a Daniel Lambert again figures on the tax rolls. He passed away in 1804 in Columbia, OH (in greater Cincinnati).

This surname had many different spellings, including Fitzrandle, Fittsrendolfe, or Fittsrandolfe[3], with FitzRandolph or Fitz Randolph emerging as the most common. Fitz Randolph is being recommended as the standard, recognizing though that in later years, Fitz sometimes became used as a middle name for sons and optional for daughters. In Benjamin father's Fitz Randolph family, Fitz appears to have been used by all family members as part of their surname: the Oris H.F. Randolph genealogy[4] assumes this to be the case when listing the children in the family in which Mary is a child. The current consensus is therefore to use the surname Fitz Randolph. (Need to confirm how Fitz Randolph was used in legal documents and when births were recorded documents.)
