Mary Jane Palmer

Mary Jane McCallen Married John R. Palmer circa 1857. They had two sons, Foster Clark Palmer (1859 or 1860) and Louis Oscar Palmer (1861). John may have died in the civil war, disappeared from records circa 1862. Mary Jane married William Bartley prior to 1870, and they moved to Alamakee County Iowa about that time. Bartley had one daughter prior to their marriage, Fidelia. Mary Jane and Wm Bartley had more children: Lovinia, Willard, Lydia and Jennie Bartley. Some census records show Louis and Foster having the last name Bartley but this is incorrect, they never took their step-father's name and grew up, married and lived out their lives with the surname Palmer, as passed on in our family tree. Grandma Bartley, as Mary Jane was known in our family, lived in Lacrosse, WI in later life, apparently after the death of William Bartley, who was 20 years her senior.
