About Mathias Allacher
He came to America with his parents in 1884 at the age of nine. The family disembarked at a Texas port when they came to America. The first six months they settled in Austin, TX, and then moved to the vicinity of Herndon, Ks, where his parents homesteaded. At the age of 23, he enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 31, 1898, and was assigned to Troop "M" of the 7th Regt. of Cavalry during the Spanish-American War. He served in the U.S. and Cuba. Matt liked to play chess. He played the violin for some of the local barn dances. He farmed all his life and lived on a farm south of Herndon where he raised his family. At the time of his death, Matt was a member of the Christian Science Society of Oberlin, KS. Prior to 1924, he was a member of the Herndon Immanuel Evangelical Church.
