Matilda Emily Odell Osterdyk

Matilda “Tillie” (Odell) Osterdyk of Cambridge, formerly of Braham and Mora, MN, died Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Cambridge Health Care Center. She was 98 years, 8 months and 2 weeks old. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, SATURDAY, March 29, 2008 at the Cambridge United Methodist Church. Visitation will be held from 9:00-11:00 AM at the church on Saturday. Interment will take place at 3:00 PM at Oakwood Cemetery in Mora. Matilda “Tillie” Emily (Odell) Osterdyk, daughter of Frank M. and Anna (VanEssen) Odell, was born on July 12, 1909 in Comfort Township, Kanabec County, Minnesota. Matilda died on Wednesday, March 26, 2008 at the Cambridge Health Care Center in Cambridge, Minnesota. She was 98 years, 8 months and 2 weeks old. Tillie attended and graduated from 8th grade in a country school in Kanabec County. She was united in marriage on April 5, 1934 to Jacob Osterdyk in Mora, MN. Their first home was in Mora; they later moved to Braham in 1941. Matilda was a homemaker and then became employed at the Cambridge State Hospital in 1969. She retired in 1975. She was a member of the Cambridge Methodist Church and volunteered many hours at the Cambridge Senior Center and for Cambridge Healthy Seniors. She also attended the Seward Birthday Club for over 40 years. Matilda enjoyed her family, reading, crocheting and visiting with her friends at church, Ashland Place and Cambridge Health Care. She was preceded in death by her parents, Frank & Anna Odell; husband, Jacob; 2 sons, Baby Osterdyk and Deane Osterdyk; 6 brothers, Clarence, Herman, Vernon, Roy, Lester and Arthur Odell; 2 sisters, Eva Mae Davis and Edith Evelyn Odell; and son-in-law, Richard Edlund. She is survived by 3 sons, Peter Melvin (Marjorie) Osterdyk of Richfield, MN, Dell (Lorrie) Osterdyk of Shakopee, MN, Doran (Paulette) Osterdyk of Isle, MN; 3 daughters, Donna Edlund of Cambridge, MN, Marie (Lee) Thompson of Mora, MN, and Ila (James) Werner of Stanchfield, MN; 23 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; sisters-in-law, Jantje “Jenny” Baldwin of Mora, MN and Peitje (Roy) Heim of Rochester, MN; brothers-in-law, Gerrett (Marian) Osterdyk of Mora, MN and Casey (Amelia) Osterdyk of Billings, MT; also by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
