Source: Ross Family in New Jersey p 18.</p><p><p></p></p><p><p>Mathias married on Nov 27, 1770 at the Presbyterian Church of New Providence, Mary Halsey, daughterof Joseph and Mary (Armstrong) Halsey. She was born about 1753 and some say she died 1826. It is more likely she was "The wife of Matthias Ross died May 18, 1785 " per the New Providence Church records of the Rev. Jonathan Elmer.</p><p><p></p></p><p><p>Mar 12, 1776 Newark Town Records p. 157 Mathias Ross 1 of 37 chosen overseers of the Highways. I don't know if this is the same Mathias because this one if of Newark and the other one is from Springfield, Ohio, but there is a Springfield, New Jersey too.</p><p><p></p></p><p><p>On tax list at Newark Township 1779 and 1780.</p></p><p><p></p></p><p><p>He was on the Springfield Tax List at Newark 1781-1783</p></p><p><p></p></p><p><p> He was a pioneer in South West Cincinnatti, Ohio, June 11, 1794 and was a subscriber for a meeting house at Cincinatti Village.</p><p><p></p></p><p><p>May 20, 1795 he ws deeded 160 acres of Miami purchase by Samuel Leming of Kentucky.</p><p><p></p></p><p><p>He was on the 1799 Hamilton County, Ohio voters list.</p></p><p><p></p></p><p><p>At the age of 78 he rode from Cincinatti, Ohio to Springfield, New Jersey and back.</p><p><p></p></p><p><p>He died Mar 24 1830. at the home of son Ogden.</p></p><p><p></p></p><p><p>His will was dated Jan 16 1830 and proved April 1, 1830. It named his five children and the nine children of his son Ogden.
