About Max Nimoy
Max and Dora Nimoy were Yiddish-speaking, observant Orthodox Jewish immigrants who had escaped from from Iziaslav, Ukraine, Tsarist Russia in 1913. The family settled in the West End of Boston, where Max was a popular local figure and enjoyed his life as a barber.
The young Nimoy brothers—Leonard and older brother Melvin—were neighborhood fixtures, and sold newspapers in Boston Common.
Biography
Max was born in Izyaslav, Ukraine ( now Zaslav, Russia). He owned a barbershop in the Mattapan neighborhood of Boston. He immigrated in 1913. He became naturalized as a US Citizen in 1929].
