Heart Attack Takes Life of Darnell's Ex LAS VEGAS. Ncv. (UPD—The Clark County coroner’s office today confirmed airline pilot Merle Roy Robertson, 47, former husband of the late Linda Darnell, died from a heart attack. Robertson, a pilot for American Airtimes for 25 years, was found dead Wednesday in his room at a “strip” hotel. The veteran flyer was scheduled to appear in court Thursday in Los Angeles in a case involving a suit by Union Bank against Robertson, and the estate of the late actress over a $25,000 loan made to the pair for a movie investment. Robertson’s attorney, P. Basil Lambros, informed the court of the pilot’s death. Miss Darnell, who died earlier this year from bums suffered in a fire at a Chicago home, was divorced from Robertson i n November 1963.
