Mike DiMaggio, Member Of Famous Baseball Family, Drowns
BODEGA BAY, Calif., May 30—Mike DiMaggio, 44, brother of the famed baseball-playing Di- Maggios, drowned at Bodega Bay, north of San Francisco, while preparing for a day of commercial fishing. Sheriff's deputies said that he fell overboard, apparently while he was warming up the engine of his fishing craft.
The drowning occurred shortly before dawn, as vessels of a commercial fishing fleet from San Francisco were being readied for the day's run. As the other vessels cast off, DiMaggio's, the Rosalie D., was dangling by its bow line. The stern line had been cast off.
Fellow fishermen went aboard to find DiMaggio's partner, still asleep in his bunk, and DiMaggio missing. One of the larger vessels in the fleet turned a searchlight on and DiMaggio's body was found 40 minutes later, floating in the bay about 150 feet astern of his boat. He is survived by his widow, Mamie, and three, children, Joe, 22, Tommy, 12, and Rosalie, 4
