Newspaper: MRS. HUGHES, SHELBY, DIES Shelby, July 26 - Mrs. Mildred Hughes, 57, of R.R.1, New Era, died Wednesday at Oceana Hospital, Hart, after a long illness. She was born Jan 7, 1899, in Shelby Township, and was married to Alva Sturtevant Jan. 18, 1918, at Hart. He died Apr 27, 1938. She was married to Arthur Hughes at Crystal Valley Nov. 29, 1942. Mrs. Hughes was a member of the New Era Reformed Church. She leaves her husband, two daughters, Mrs. Bert Benning of Shelby, Mrs. Ray Fekken of New Era; a son, Milo Sturtevant of Shelby; five stepchildren, Harold Hughes of Fremont, Raymond [Hughes] and Mrs. Gerald Puffer, both of Montague, Wayne [Hughes] of Rothbury, Mrs. Wayne Webster of Ferry; two sisters, Mrs. Dale Lowe of Vermontville, Mrs. Elton Griswold of Muskegon, and 26 grandchildren. Funeral services will take place at 2pm Friday at Cooper funeral Home with Rev. Pierce Massen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery.
