About Nannie Van Nostrand Rodman

From The Newburgh (NY) Telegram, of Saturday, Nov. 23, 1907:

Engagement of Former Balmville Girl

In New York, the engagement is announced of Miss Nannie Van Nostrand Marvin and Cary Selden rodman, both originally of Brooklyn. Mr. Rocman's present home is at 160 East 36th Street, Manhattan, and Miss Marvin's but a few blocks away. Brooklyn Life in a recent issue has aptly and newsily pictured the personality and the forbears of this engaged couple, and what it says is so authoritative that it is well worth reproducing here.

"Miss Marvin is the elder of the two daughters of the late Dr. and Mrs. George Marvin, and a grand-daughter of the late John J. Van Nostrand, who was one of the most substantial Brooklyn men of his day. The late Mrs. Marvin and her two daughters left Brooklyn soon after the death of Mr. Van Nostrand, with whom they lived, and took up their residence in Manhattan. Since the death of their mother several years ago, the sisters have continued to maintain their home together at 133 East 39th Street, though they have traveled abroad a great deal and spent much time in Newburgh, which is the home of their aunt, Mrs. James A. Powell Ramsdell, who was Miss Fanny Van Nostrand, and was celebrated both in Brooklyn and New York society for her witty repartee and clever sayings. Miss Marvin and her fiance have been intimate friends from childhood, as they were near friends when the Rodmans and van Nostrands lived in South Brooklyn. Mr. Rodman is a well-known architect, a graduate of Columbia '91, and a member of the University Club. He is an uncle, by the way, of Mrs. Electus D. Litchfield - Elizabeth B. Rodman - whose marriage took place in Stockbridge, Massachusetts, last July, and who is a daughter of Mrs. Thomas H. Rodman, Jr."
