About Nathan Isaac Wunsch
NATHAN WUNSCH, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, died at his home in Dallas on February 15, 2009. He would have celebrated his 90th birthday on March 24. Nathan was born March 24, 1919, to Rebecca and Benjamin Wunsch in the Bronx, New York. He was the youngest of six children. Nathan is survived by his loving, devoted, and caring wife of almost sixty-two years, Helen, who he married on October 26, 1947. When he was nineteen, he began his career in the wholesale pajamas business, first for Welden and later for Host Pajamas. He interrupted his career in 1941 to join the Army and saw service in Northern Africa and Italy until 1946, when he returned to the US. He moved with his family in 1951 to Dallas to oversee sales in the southwest region for Host. Nathan was a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees. As a boy, he would sneak into Yankees stadium to watch the likes of Lou Gehrig and Babe Ruth. He never tired of telling his family stories of playing stickball in the Bronx or in serving in George Patton's army or meeting up with his brother, Abe, when both were serving in the army in Africa. He loved to travel with his wife, and they took numerous trips and cruises to Europe, Asia, Israel, and the Caribbean. Nathan was a member of Shearith Israel Synagogue for 58 years. Nathan will be greatly missed by his wife, Helen Wunsch; his son, two daughters and their spouses, Lee and Rochelle Wunsch of Houston, Texas, Bobbie Wunsch of San Anselmo, California, and Karen and Alan Katz of Dallas; five grandchildren, Mark and his spouse, Vera Wunsch of New York City, Eric Wunsch of Philadelphia, Felice and Michael Faison of San Anselmo, California, and Alex Katz of Stanford, California. The family would like to give special thanks to Nathan's wonderful caretaker, Eunice Webber. Graveside services will be held at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas on Monday, February 16, 2009, at 3 PM. Rabbi David Glickman, Rabbi David Rosen and Cantor Itzhak Zhrebker will officiate. The family has suggested that memorials be made to Congregation Shearith Israel, 9401 Douglas Ave, Dallas, TX 75225, or a charity of choice. Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home 7405 W. Northwest Hwy.
