Pfc Alan D. Loughman enlisted in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 29 January 1944.

For four years, Loughman was employed by the Jessop Steel Company and was prominent as a baseball pitcher for the Jessop team and for the Washington team in the County League. He received his basic training at Camp Swift, Tex., and was transferred to Fort Dix, N.J., before going overseas with an infantry division about September 17.

A War Department telegram received here yesterday announcing that Pfc. Alan D. Loughman, 33, of Washington, was killed on Nov 23, in Germany. Pfc. Loughman was a son of J. G. Loughman, of West Union, and .ithe late Dora Dunn Loughman. Hls wife, the former Edlth Clutter and small son, Edwin, live nt 736 Addison street, Washington. He wna born and reared nt West Union. and was a member of the West Union Presbyterian Church. Ho entered the Army Feb. 19. 1944, received his basic training at Camp Swift, Texas and then was transferred to Fort Dlx, N. J., and left for overseas about Sept. 17. Ho was a member of an infantry division. For four years ho was employed by tho Jessop Steel Company and was prominent as a baseball pitcher for the Jessop team, and for tho Washington team ln the Washington County League. He was sent to Cumberland and Harrisburg for tryouts ln their teams. Surviving, besides bls wife and son, are nine brothers and sisters, Ben and Carl of Waynesburg, Merle, Mrs. Florence Shriver, Mrs Hannah Canan ond Mrs. Arta Coop er. of West Union; Raymond Lough' mafi. Ruff Creek, and Miss Mlldred Loughman and Donald Loughman, at home. One brother, Merle, is in the service and overseas.
