    • "Wm. C. Kettle, his wife and three children, formerly of Chesterton, lost their lives in the horrible railway collision at Glenwood Springs, Colorado, early last Saturday morning.
    • "Mr. Kettle and family moved to Ashton, Nebraska, about twenty-five years ago and were well known here before going there. After moving to Nebraska fortune seemed smile upon him and he was able to accumulate quite a fortune through thrift and hard work.
    • "About a year ago he sold his holdings in Nebraska and decided to find a balmier place in which to spend his remaining years. After looking about he decided to locate at Grand Junction, Colorado and last fall purchased a fruit farm of seventeen acres, built a fine residence on the place, had it fully furnished, and everything was dandy.
    • "The whole family, excepting one son and one daughter, who had gone on to prepare the new home, boarded the train at Ashton last Friday, with joyous hearts, bound for their new home, and would have reached their destination within an hour.
    • " Fate was against them, for while the son and daughter were waiting in the depot at Grand Junction for the arrival of the train that would bring their parents, brother and sisters to them, word was received that the train had met a head-on collision with a freight train and that many people were killed.
    • " Among the first names of identified dead sent in were those of Mr. and Mrs. Kettle. The son and daughter, frantic with grief hoped that at least one of the family would be found uninjured. The son started for the place of the wreck with the first relief train sent out, and not until he arrived at the scene of the accident did he learn that both his parents, two sisters, Mae aged 21, and Nita aged 17, and his youngest brother Paul, aged 14, were among the list of killed.
    • " Mr. Kettle and family were riding in a passenger car the fourth coach from the engine, and in this car most of the passengers were killed as it was completely telescoped by the tourist car immediately following this car.
    • "Mrs. Kettle is a sister of Mrs. Ed. Holland, who resides about a mile east of town, and is also a sister of Mrs. George W. Green, and Mrs. McAnderson and Miss Mary Bradt of Chesterton. The latter two ladies have spent their summer vacations for the past two years with Mrs. Kettle in Nebraska.
    • "Mrs. McAnderson left Monday morning for the Nebraska city to attend the funeral of her relatives, it being not yet decided when the interment will take place.
