Pieter 'Piet' Schalk van Staden (1917 - 1992)

Brief overview:

Piet (75), and his wife, Martie van Staden (67), were murdered in their home at farm Vlakte in Groot-Marico, on the evening of 15th April 1992.

Piet was in the kitchen when their farmhouse was raided. He was strangled with a nylon rope and his hands and feet bound together. Martie was shot in the face.

Their bodies were wrapped in sheets and dragged from the house and loaded into the boot of their car.

Police officer, Wicus Wolmarans (20), and Riaan Visagie (22), found the couple's bodies about three kilometers from their farm after the couples car was spotted by unknown men. The perpetrators sped at the police who fired shots at the vehicles tyres. The driver lost control and the car crashed into a post. One of the men was arrested and the other one ran away. Amongst other things, it contained clothes and a TV set.
