About Pte. Percy Harold Smith
Percy Smith was the son of John Wesley Smith and Mary Ann Smith (nee Beaumont), of 140 King St., Sydenham, Christchurch, New Zealand. Percy signed up to serve with the New Zealand Infantry during World War I. He was admitted to Tidworth Military Hospital on 13 August 1917 with epilepticus caused by alcoholism and died the following day. His brother George Crosby Smith had served with the Royal Garrison Artillery and died in India in August 1914.
