Rev. John Amos Mercer (Scotland 1625--Hillsborough, County Down, Ireland) married Grace Avon or Aaron in 1647 or 1651. They had four children: John, born 1652 Ireland; Moses, born in 1654 Ireland, Edward, born 1657 Ireland; and Jane, born 1660 Ireland--died single. Another source indicates they had six children, including Susannah, born in 1659.

John born 1676 married Elizabeth Bentley in 1708 had a son Gideon I born in 1709. After Elizabeth Mercer Bentley's death, John Mercer married Sarah Ann Moore in 1714 and had son Edward Mercer I. Edward born 1714 married Ann Croats, Edward died 1763 at Frederich Co. Winchester VA., they had a son Moses. Moses born about 1733 married Diana Morrison. Moses died in 1810 at Frederich Co., Winchester VA. They had a son Gideon II. Gideon II born about 1778 married Elizabeth Smith. Gideon II died at Rockbridge Co., VA. They had a son Samuel. Samuel born about 1803 married Eustacia Holloway. Samuel died 1885 buried at Johnston Cemetery, Piqua Ohio.
