Richard S. Altman Sr., 85, of Beach Haven, N.J., died Wednesday, May 2, 2007, in Lancaster.
Born in Allentown, Richard was the son of the late Leon C. and Flora Amey Altman.
He was the husband of the late Helen M. Simon Altman, who died in 1990.
Richard had worked as an electrician for the Lukens Steel Co. of Coatesville for 20 years, until his retirement in 1988.
Prior to Lukens, he had worked as an aircraft mechanic and had farmed in Chester County.
A U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he had served at the air base at Natal, Brazil, where he served in many capacities, including aircraft navigator and base photographer.
A member of the Sports Car Club of America, Richard enjoyed racing in sports car events, was a licensed pilot and enjoyed sailing and boating.
He is survived by four sons, Dr. Richard S., married to Rebecca Altman of Lancaster, P. Timothy, married to Mary J. Altman of Chesapeake, Va., Gerald M. of Beach Haven, N.J., and Thomas R. of San Diego, Calif.; two daughters, Susan A., married to Joseph A. Hamrick of Coatesville, and Elaine M., married to Steven M. Rutter of Elizabethtown; 15 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Friends will be received by Richard's family Friday, May 4, from 1 to 1:30 p.m., at the Charles Snyder Funeral Home and Chapel, 3110 Lititz Pike, Lititz, with a graveside service at 2 p.m., at St. Joseph New Catholic Cemetery in Bausman.
