About Robert Charles Jenkins, Sr

He was born on April 28, 1915, in Mt. View, Arkansas, to Frank and Rachael (Davis) Jenkins. Orphaned at the age of 12, he started making his own way in life at an early age, riding the rails around the country and ending up in Klamath Falls, Oregon, in 1935. He married Pearl Edna Rhodes in 1936. They were married for 65 years, until her death in 2001. Bob worked in the sawmills in Klamath Falls. During WWII he was a foreman at the Sierra Army Depot in Herlong, California. He moved his family to Riddle, Oregon, in 1945 where he worked as a Gypo Car Loader for Stomar LBR. He was also a skilled cement man and poured the first sidewalks for the city of Riddle in the mid-50s. He started buying and selling property and continued to do so for the next 40 years. His word was his bond, his handshake was like a binding contract. He helped many, many people buy their first home because of his easy credit terms. "$100.00 down and $50.00 a month." He was willing to take almost anything, in trade for a downpayment including sheep, horses, quilts, and furniture. He received an airplane in trade and decided to learn how to fly. He soloed on his 60th birthday and earned his pilot license. Bob lived a full life. His interests included gold mining, horse training, guitar picking, poker playing, pool playing, beach combing, and his family.

Obituary for his sister: Jewell Patterson News-Review Jan 30, 2018 July 1, 1918 - January 16, 2018

Jewell (Judy) Patterson, age 99, of Roseburg, Oregon, passed away on January 16, 2018. Judy was born in Guion, Izard County, Arkansas; the youngest of 10 children born to Stephen Jenkins and Rachel Jenkins. Judy was raised on Davis Mountain where she developed a love for animals both wild and domestic. She raised many stray animals including a raccoon.

In 1934, with her parents deceased, Judy (age 16) traveled to Klamath Falls, Oregon, with her brother Robert Jenkins (Pearl), sister, Elsie (Baxter), and young nephews Dale and Charles Younger. Judy found work and developed an attitude of independence. She met and married Robert Patterson. The young Patterson family, in 1946, followed brother, Bob (Pearl) Jenkins to Canyonville, Oregon where Patterson’s opened and operated a successful bakery until 1953. Judy continued serving the public by cooking, baking and waitressing in local family restaurants. Sister Esther (Daunt) Hall and family joined the Pattersons and Jenkins in the Canyonville area. In 1978, retirement took Judy and Robert to Florence, Oregon (near brother Bob), where they enjoyed the cool air, camping, fishing and visits from family. After Robert’s death in 1987, Judy stayed on in Florence and raised one of her great granddaughters. In 2007, Judy returned to Canyonville to be near her daughter, Patricia Creswell (Michael) of Roseburg, and her son, John Patterson (Cheryl) of Tri City.

Judy was recognized by her smile, sparkle in her eye, and humor. She loved children and could not let a little one get by her. She was known as “Grandma” or “Mom” to many.

Judy is survived by daughter, Patricia(Mike) Creswell; son, John(Cheryl) Patterson; granddaughters, Rachelle Smith of Springfield, Oregon, and Kathleen Medler (Kenny) of Roseburg; great-granddaughters, Christina Miller (Andre) Sasha Carter (Curtis Boone) and Haley Watts (Daniel McManus); great-grandsons, Ryan Smith, Tyler LeVesque and Dylan Watts; plus eight great-great-grandsons; and one great-great-granddaughter. Also surviving are nieces, Lois Hall Larson (Wes) of Myrtle Creek, Jean Jenkins of Riddle, Ruby Allender of Concord, Arkansas, Imogene Maghar of Little Rock, Arkansas; and nephews Charles (Rex) Younger, of Oregon City, and Robert Jenkins Jr. (Beverly) of Annandale, VA; niece-in-law, Letha Younger of Oregon City, and their families.

A sincere thank you to her special friends Bob and Arlene Bright who brought sunshine into her life each week; plus all of the staff at Callahan Village.

Burial has taken place at Pacific Sunset Memorial Park in Florence, Oregon, where she is next to her husband Bob and brother Bob/Pearl Jenkins. Judy will celebrate her 100th birthday in heaven and a family memorial will honor her love, generous giving and longevity.
