The Kyles first arrived in America when Robert Kyle immigrated from Tyrone, Ireland in the mid 18th Century and purchased a piece of land in Buckingham County, VA in 1749. His youngest son, Captain Robert Kyle, served in the Revolutionary War in 1777 and later moved to Hawkins County, Tennessee, where he and his wife Leah reared a large family on their farm: "Walnut Hill" west of Rogersville, Tennessee.

Came to Canada in 1818. Next 8 children were born in Canada. Robert William was born in Norfolk,St Lawrence co,New York.
Robert Hugh Kyle was a farmer-migrating in 1818 from Ireland to Canada with wife Elizabeth Montgomery and 2 little girls. First to Prince Edward Is- then into Quebec- then to Cornwall,Ontario and in 1840 into NY state buying a large farm in Lost Nation-NY. He was a well noted veterinarian known though out the area. He passed this trait on to his son Hugh Montgomery Kyle who passed it on to his son-Hugh Robert Kyle. His lineage goes back into royalty in Scotland where there is a castle his ancestors built. Likewise Elizabeth Montgomerys family has a castle in Scotland.
