Robert James Miller, Jr. was born in 1845 and died in 1926. He was the third born, second son, of Robert Miller, Sr., and Eliza Luke Miller. His father's name, also Robert, is referred to here as Robert Miller Sr. His eldest sister, first-born Sarah known as "Sally", did not marry a man her father approved of, so she was disinherited. The eldest son, William, left home to join the Confederacy. His remaining siblings were named David, Thomas (T.J.), and George W.

Robert James Miller, Jr. married Sallie J. (Sarah Jane) Naylor, and moved to Beech Bottom in 1860. One of his sons is William M. Miller, born in Beech Bottom in 1874. "His homeplace was the house known as the Svetic house today (1983.) This house was constructed of cut stone. It was one of the houses that Robert Sr. originally built for his sons. William went to West Liberty to school," He became a dentist and practiced in Pittsburgh.
