About Rolland "Ron" Zelbert Wheaton
Son of Lucy (Bacon) and Warner A. Wheaton. Ron served in the US Army during WWII, married in 1946, received Bachelors and Masters degrees from Michigan State University, and a Doctorate in Agricultural Engineering from the University of California at Davis. His career took him to Michigan State University, Texas Tech University, and Purdue University where he retired after 20 years. He also took sabbaticals and assignments at Universidad Federal de Vicosa, Brazil, Virginia Tech, and University of Florida. He was appointed by the Governor of Indiana to serve on the Legislative Water Study Committee for improving drainage, Water and Mineral Resources Advisory Council, and ECOP Groundwater Task Force. He received several scholastic honoraries and awards including a Top Ten Teacher Award at Michigan State University. He was a member of over 30 task forces, councils, or committees relating to his field including ASAE and LICA. Throughout his career he co-authored over 40 publications. He devoted many years of research related to agriculture, water drainage, irrigation, and soil and erosion control.
