Ronald J. Cox, 64, of 1428 Sixth Ave. SE, died Wednesday, July 11, 2001, in his home after a long illness. Services: 3 p.m. Saturday, Cedar Memorial Chapel of Memories. Burial: Cedar Memorial Park Cemetery. Friends may call at Cedar Memorial Funeral Home from 5 to 8 tonight and at the chapel after 2 p.m. Saturday.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn "Punky"; six children, Charlotte "Sherry" (Dave), Carol (Craig), Rhonda (Mike), Ronald "Weiner," Suzie (Dave) and Anita Maye "Skeeter" (Charlie); and a sister, Opal James. Also surviving are 16 grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, in-laws, Judy and James Reinhold, David and Brianna Gordon, Edward and Jackie Gordon, Kenneth and Lavonda Gordon and Carolyn and Dale Hemphill.

He was preceded in death by four sisters, a brother and a grandson.

Ronnie was born Jan. 25, 1937, in Cedar Rapids, the son of Earl and Anita Parker Cox. He married Evelyn P. Gordon on Nov. 1, 1958, in Cedar Rapids. Ronnie worked his entire professional life in the Cedar Rapids/Iowa City area, first for National ByProducts for 30 years and then as a manager of the Owens Oil Service Station for 10 years. The passion in Ronnie's life was trains. He traveled throughout the Midwest to do research about and ride all kinds of trains. He was an enthusiastic CB operator ("Halftrack") for more than 20 years. He was an avid fisherman and never missed an opportunity to enjoy the sport, especially with his grandson, Matt.

He will be missed by his friends and extended family.

A memorial fund has been established in Ronnie's name.
