Ronald D. Fruland

Ronald D. Fruland 1929-2007 Ronald D. Fruland, 77, of Newark, died Thursday, July 12 at Hines Veterans Administration Hospital. Funeral services, followed by interment, will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the Millington-Newark cemetery chapel with the Rev. Dorothy Wilcox officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the Gabel-Dunn Funeral Home in Newark. Mr. Fruland was born Sept. 29, 1929, in Mission Township to Jesse and Gladys (Hamre) Fruland. He married Marcia Ann Latkoff Nov. 27, 1951, in Newark. She died Jan. 26, 1975. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 and had seen duty in the Korean conflict. He retired from the Libbey Owens Ford glass factory in Naplate in 1985. He was a 50-year member of the Newark American Legion Post 459. He was a member of the Newark Lutheran Church and also held membership in the Newark Fire Department, Newark Sportsman Club and Sheridan Rod and Gun Club. He is survived by a daughter, Ronda Thomas of Newark; a son, Gary (Susan) of Newark; four grandchildren, Jessica Thomas, Luke Thomas, Jared Fruland, and Jessie Fruland; and two sisters, Donna Hilt of Glen Ellyn and Linda Beecher of Coon Rapids, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and a brother, James Fruland. Pallbearers will be Gary Fruland, Jared Fruland, Luke Thomas, Zach Uhrich, Jimmy Sandula and Andrew Sleezer. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Newark Fire Department. Ronald D. Fruland was born September 29, 1929 in Mission Township, LaSalle County to Jesse and Gladys (Hamre) Fruland; and Ronald Fruland married Marcia Ann Latkoff on November 27, 1951 in Newark; and Ronald Fruland was a Sergeant in the United States Army from 1951 to 1953 and saw duty in the Korean Conflict; he retired from the L.O.F.
