Samuel Byers served in the Revolutionary War for York Co., SC as a horseman in Col. Thomas Neel's regiment of New Acquisition District Militia for 53 days under Lt. James Martin, and was at Brier Creek, Georgia, March 3, 1779 where the patriots suffered a disastrous defeat.
