About Sarah Caroline Riggs

Obituary:

Sarah Caroline Riggs, daughter of John A. and Mary E. Warren, was born in Mt. Vernon township Feb. 1, 1856. During the revival at Old Salem church in August 1873 under the preaching of Broyersther W. B. Overstreet she was led to the acceptance of Jesus Christ as her personal Savior whom she had since loved and followed.

She was united in marriage to P. H. Riggs September 6th, 1874. They lived in this county about three years and in 1877 decided to go with the emigration that was settling in Kansas. They made this adventure by teams and wagon and were accompanied by her brother, Henry Warren.

She was a faithful Christian attending the Baptist church at Burrton. It was always her delight to have her children come under the influence and ministry of the church. As a testimony to her faith and prayers all her children are followers of the Blessed Lord.

The children of this home are Viola Riggs, Will Riggs, Joe Riggs of Clariton Iowa, George Riggs, Mrs. Chas. A. Boyle of Pamona, California, Martin Riggs, deceased, and Mrs. Ira Shafer.

It was in September 1899, the family moved back to Illinois and lived one year on the old home farm, then in the fall of 1900 moved to the present home in Field Township. It can be said that Sarah Riggs lived a consistent Christian Life. She leaves to mourn her death, besides the immediate family, one brother, James B. Warren of Opdyke and one sister, Ella Darnell of Dix. There are remaining six children and six grand children. This si the second coming of the silent messenger into this home, the so Martin, responding to this summons June 19th, 1918.
