'Rhys ap Griffith/Gruffydd FitzUryan (Fitz Vryon)

At the age of 23, Griffith Rice was beheaded by King Henry VIII for inscribing the name Fitzurien on his coat - of - arms. The king then confiscated all the vast possessions of the Ryce to his own use.

• 'Rhys ap Griffith was born circa 1508.3 He was the son of Sir Grufudd ap Rhys and Catherine St. John.2 He married Lady Katharine Howard, daughter of Thomas Howard, 2nd Duke of Norfolk and Agnes Tilney, before 1522.3 He died in 1531, beheaded for treason.4
