About Sir Samuel Woods, Sr.
Alternate parentage info: Unsubstantiated work appears to have Samuel's parents as Joseph Woods and Ruth Boston. Joseph's parents may be James Woods and Elizabeth Waugh. Again I've not seen records that can confirm this but it looks pretty good. The family appears to have sailed from Bristol in 1630 as a part of the Winthrop Fleet aboard "The Christopher" but unfortunately again this has not been substantiated.
Member of the train-band (colonial militia unit) at Watertown, Massachusetts, in 1653 (Middlesex Co. Court files, 1653), and later lived in Cambridge where he married. In 1662 he moved to Groton where he was an original proprietor owning an eleven-acre right. He resided there until the destruction of the town in the King Philip's War, Mar. 1675-6, when he returned to Watertown. In 1677 he signed the agreement, made at Concord, to resettle Groton, and the following year returned to Groton.
