Thief River Falls Times - Sophie Pulczinski, 90 Greenbush - Sophie M. Pulczinski, 90, died Sunday, July 15, 2001 at the Greenbush Nursing Home in Greenbush.

Services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 18, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Greenbush with Father Don Braukmann officiating. Special music was provided by Jeanne Novacek, and Rosemary Ellis and Christine Canfield were the eucharistic ministers. Sophie's great-grandchildren served as the giftbearers. Bernie Reese and A. J. Pulczinski were the readers, and Breanna Gjovik and Striker Hasson were the servers. Casketbearers included Brett Pulczinski, Mike Pulczinski, Ted Nesteby, Philip Pelowski, Don Grabanski and Jerome Burkel. Interment was in Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery with Collins Funeral Home of Greenbush in charge of the arrangements.

Sophie Monica Kulas was born on May 4, 1911 in Barto township of Roseau county near Greenbush, the daughter of John and Rose (Kukowski) Kulas. She grew up and attended school in Barto township and was baptized and confirmed at St. Aloysius Catholic Church of Leo near her home.

On November 18, 1930, Sophie was united in marriage to Nick Pulczinski at Leo. In 1933, they moved into Greenbush where they were in business until 1979. Sophie operated a cafe in Greenbush and later worked at the former Lorbiecki Store and then Ace Hardware for many years. Nick died on January 27, 1989, and for the past two years, Sophie had resided at the Greenbush Nursing Home.

She was an active member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church of Greenbush and made several altar linens. She was also a member of St. Ann's Sodality and Ladies Council.

Sophie enjoyed sewing, quilting and especially spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include a son, Cyril (Rosemary) of Bemidji; a daughter, Rosemary (Newell) Ellis of Walker; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Delphine Grabanski of Hibbing and Dorothy Grabanski of St. Charles, Mo.; and many nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Sophie was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two sisters, Angeline and Susie; a brother, John; and a grandson, Mitchell.
