"BEACH Family":

Thomas G. Beach moved from Upson Co., GA, to Talbot County in the early 1840's, buying land on Alabama Road. He owned $2,400 of Real Estate and Nine Slaves in 1850, was 53 yrs of age, and his wife, Sarah W. Beach, 48. They were born in Georgia, as were their children: John, 24, Miles, 22, James, 18, Thomas, 15, Sarah, 12, Frances, 9; Benjamin, four years of age. Mrs. Catherine Beach, 78, mother of Thomas G. Beach, lived in the household and was born in Delaware.

Before 1860, Beach sold his place and moved to a farm in Pleasant Hill G.M.D. 681. He had $3,600 of real estate and $15,134 of personal estate in 1860. His son, John C. Beach, 34. and wife sarah 26, lived on an adjoining farm. Their children were Jane 6, Leander 4, Ollie B., aged one year.

Thomas G. Beach, Jr., was a school teacher, with $700.00 of real estate and $1,800.00 of personal estate in 1860. His wife, Georgia A. Beach, 21, was born in Georgia, as were their children, Emily E. 4, and George T., aged one year. His school was at Baughville, near Mount vernon Baptist Church.

Sometime after the Civil War, Thomas G. Beach, Sr., moved back to Rough Edge G.M.D. 904 and lived on Land Lot No. 125. 22nd Land District, a lot sold him by Norborn P. Powell, of Macon County, Alabama, by indenture of February 27, 1856. The lot adjoined No. 128. and the consideration was $500.00. In the deed, Lot No. 125 was described as "being the place whereon John C. Calhoun lived for many years and where he resided when he moved from said

(Talbot) county.

Thomas G. Beach, Sr., was born July 29, 1797 and Died in the Faith June 24, 1884, "a quiet, peaceable and unoffensive gentleman whom all his neighbors loved and respected." His wife, Sarah W. Beach, was born October 1, 1802 and "Died in Triumph" May 7,1889. They were longtime members of Matthews Chapel Methodist Church, on the Alabama Road, where they are buried. The Talbottom New Era reported after his death that he was survived by nine children, 40 grandchildren and 37 great grandchildren!

Mrs. Beach's obituary was in the New Era for May 14, 1889. She had lived in Talbot County and been a "consistent member" of the Methodist Church for most of her life, 'a remarkably active and vigorous woman, who lived to see five generations of her family." Children in Talbot County at the time of her death were Miles, Benjamin and Sarah C. Beach, and Eveline H. Beach Hall (Mrs. William T.). Her son, John Beach, lived in Harris County, Georgia, and other children were in Texas. Charles Wesley Beach, born November 2, 1828 and died April 2, 1900, is buried in the family plot at Mathews Chapel, which is enclosed by an iron fence made by Champion Iron Fence Company, Kenton, Ohio.
