http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Thomas_L._J._D%27Alesandro_III
Thomas D'Alesandro III (born July 24, 1929 in Baltimore) was Mayor of Baltimore from 1967 to 1971.[1] He is the brother of former Speaker of the United States House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi,[2] and son of former Baltimore Mayor Thomas D'Alesandro, Jr. who served from 1947 to 1959.[1]
D'Alesandro attended Loyola College in Baltimore and studied law at the University of Maryland School of Law. After military service he entered into politics, becoming president of the Baltimore City Council in 1963. He ran for mayor in 1967 as a Democrat and easily defeated Republican challenger Arthur W. Sherwood.[citation needed]
His term as mayor was dominated by budgetary troubles and by the rioting which followed the assassination of Martin Luther King, Jr.
