Researcher: Winnie Jo Forman Stockstill From "The Harvey Family", The North Carolina historical and genealogical, Vol 3, Nov 1-3, 190__, pp. 477 "... were married by Maj. Samuel Swan, Jany. 27, 1701."

Corrected information from Paul Harvey There is a land deed in History of Perquimans County as compiled from records found there and elsewhere by Mrs. Watson Winslow, p. 56, A223: "No. 223. Ralph Fletcher "the Elder, Item" of Perq. "for Love & Aff. I do bear by Dau Margaret Harvey, wife of Thomas Harvey, Item" of afore' have given Land, adj that seated by Jenkins Williams, & East by Grassy point Gut. 170a. April 11, 1704. Test' John Stepney, Tho Snoden."

Census: The Children and their families (the four sons) of Thomas were all in Lunenburg County, Virginia during the years 1750-60. Later, the area they were in became Charlotte County.

Census: Charles and family, with the exception of his son Thomas, were in Lunenburg County, Virginia during the early part of the 1750s and in Charlotte County the latter part. Charles had been granted land there.

Residence: By 1772, Charles had moved his family to Craven County, South Carolina along with his brothers, John and William. His brother, Thomas was the only one of the four brothers to remain in Virginia his entire life. Charles merely "stopped over" in South Carolina before moving on to Georgia. On July 2, 1776 he was appointed a Magistrate of the District of Queensborough.

Some researchers think John Harvey is the father, not Thomas Harvey. No proof yet. Both Thomas and William had sons called Thomas, so there is may be wrong.

In the other branch of the family?the four brothers, sons of Gov. Thomas?three of them left to go on to new horizons in South Carolina, while one remained in North Carolina. John, William, and Charles went to Craven County, South Carolina. Charles only stayed a short time in South Carolina, then moved on to Georgia. Thomas, who stayed behind, and his descendants became the Harveys of Charlotte County, Virginia.

By the early 1800's, the descendants of Thomas of Albemarle had spread into all the Carolinas, Georgia, Mississippi, Tennessee, Florida, Louisiana, Kentucky, and of course, Virginia and West Virginia. It provides a good deal of challenge for the genealogist tracing back their family lines. To further complicate matters, there were other Harveys that emigrated to America. They arrived in New England, Canada, and elsewhere and were not related to the Harveys of Albemarle?at least, not closely related. I hope to find with more information to help in the efforts of those of us seeking to trace the ancestors of the Southern Harveys.
