In 1760, Thomas was serving as a lieutenant under General Amherst; he was present at the siege of Fort Levi and the capture of Montreal. At the time, he had been married to Hannah (whose mother was Hannah Hawkes) about 2 years. Lt. Vail settled on LI after the war [after 1760], engaged in farming, then 12 years later moved to Lebanon, CT., thence to Pomfret, Windsor County, VT.
